Totara, Port Levy Saddle

I took a few hours out on Saturday to take a few photos with my large format camera and to have another go with dry plate images. Those are still to be developed, and things have been pretty busy this week; however, I thought I would share something from the trip taken on my digital camera.

I took the gravel road out of Little River, climbing steeply up to the Port Levy Saddle, which has lovely views in all directions, back across to Little River, and down to Port Levy. On the top are remnants of totara forest, trees, and stumps in amazing shapes, the effect of the wind clear upon them. I have been there many times over the years, but this was only the second time there has been snow on the ground.

These images are of the same tree from a few different view points. The sun bow was particularly lovely to see.
